Paul Boyd’Äôs hit 1997 musical
now celebrating 15 spooky years
Paul Boyd's musical of Hansel & Grettel has been staged in eight professional productions since it premiered in 1997 and has consistently been one of pbm's most successful productions. The Lyric Theatre's 1999 version broke box office records and remains the most commercially successful musical production ever staged in the Belfast theatre's long history, achieving 98% ticket sales over an extended nine week run.
In February 2008 Hansel & Grettel received its USA premiere at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in a new staging by Dreamchild Productions, and was revived at Miramar Cultural Center, Florida, from 2nd - 7th November 2009 in a version co-produced by Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Dreamchild Productions.
In 2010 pbm premiered a new staged concert version of Hansel & Grettel, featuring the show’Äôs first extensive script and music revisions in thirteen years, at the New Wimbledon Studio in London. For more information on this new version of the show click here
Hansel & Grettel is a full-length musical that tells the story of two children, two desperate parents, and an ill-advised trip into the woods where the children meet a bird, a frog and a witch with a most unusual taste in home decor. The show is performed by a multi-roleplaying cast of six aided and abetted by wonderful wishes and wise words. Featuring the songs ’ÄúA World Without Children’Äù and ’ÄúThe Wish Song’Äù as well as Hansel and Grettel’Äôs ballad ’ÄúLost and Alone’Äù, Fats the Frog’Äôs ’ÄúThe Greens’Äù, and the Witch’Äôs hysterical show-stopper ’ÄúChildren’Äôs Portions’Äù - all rounded off with pbm's most popular and exciting mega-mix finale!hansel_and_grettel_2010.htmlshapeimage_9_link_0
